Wave Particle Duality – What It Is And How It Works

Minute Physics provides an energetic and entertaining view of old and new problems in physics — all in a minute!  And this topic is really important because, well, we are all made of these quantum objects that behave so mysteriously.

“Wave-particle duality” simply means that a  quantum particle has the ability to be measured and observed both as a solid stable object located in a precise location and space, and as a non-physical non-local wave smeared out across space where it can be measured as being in more than one place at the same time.  It literally flips-flops in and out of being a solid object and a wave.  These objects, such as electrons and protons, make up atoms which are the building blocks of all physical reality.

Here are two very short and concise videos talking about this phenomenon:

We experience a world of physical matter, but in reality, matter is just empty space and electrical spin.  There is still so much we have to learn!

  1. While I absolutely love almost all the content on this website, this particular videos series is VERY misleading. The duality of the two has nothing to do with them being separate at all, (as the water particle example given shows). I suggest taking this off, as I am sure there are much better videos out there explaining this. (I say this from the perspective of a scientist, engineer, and spiritual being).

  2. but sound waves do move like that first one, the fact is there is more than one particle so more than one person can hear it, so what’s the actual point?
