In the age of the internet, it is always easy to find someone who is willing to agree with you. No matter how obscure and baseless your belief may be, it is always possible to connect with like-minded individuals on a forum or chat group in some far-off corner of the web.
The spiritual community is no exception to this rule. But unlike a religious or political group, there is no list of things that you are supposed to believe as a spiritual person. Maybe you are a part of the growing numbers of vegans in North America, but you can’t understand why they are the point of so many jokes. Is veganism a more enlightened lifestyle, or is it just a fad? Where do we draw the line?
This question becomes even harder when both sides of an argument seem plausible. Take the title of this article, for instance. Is eating meat bad for your soul? Maybe eating the meat of animals that have suffered greatly during their lives somehow taints your body and lowers your vibration? Or maybe all animals and plants are indivisible, and are part of our natural world?
Here are two different perspectives on whether or not it is wrong to eat meat as a spiritually minded person. Try not to look through the lens of “right” and “wrong”. Instead, seek to understand each position, and see which one is best for you.
Eating Meat is Bad
Eating meat is definitely detrimental to your spiritual efforts. Non-vegetarian food can seriously dampen your spiritual intellect since it intoxicates your spiritual awareness. Humans are naturally psychic beings, but eating meat drastically lowers your spiritual potential, and leaves you in a low vibration state.
Choosing to go vegan, or at least vegetarian, can drastically increase your spiritual powers. You will become more empathic and intuitive. Some people even report being able to see spirits or able to foresee events. There is no telling just how much your vibration will rise from this simple lifestyle change.
When you eat the flesh of animals, you also consume and internalize the suffering and pain that they were put through.
Eating Meat is Good
Whether animal or plant, all living things take part in the endless cycle of birth and death; humans are no different. All animals are a gift from mother earth, which nourishes us and teaches us to grow. We need to be grateful for the bounty of the natural world, and not abuse it.
South American shamans and ancient people all over the world shared this philosophy, and they were some of the most spiritual people that have existed on our planet.
Which position did you agree with? You don’t have to be completely convinced by any one argument. Changing one’s beliefs happens slowly, and is a sign of intelligence and strength.
At any rate, it is important to not only invite differing opinions but actively seek them out. True knowledge can only come from the realization that we, in fact, know nothing.

This article is biased. The vegan argument wasn’t structured very well. Whereas us omnivores had proof of history (African shamans and native Americans), the vegans had rumor. No proof. For example why not mention how it affects the physical allowing for some high spiritual connection.
I don’t feel the ‘Eating meat is Good’ side had very convincing information. It sounded like it just said “everything is here for humans. Just don’t waste.”
I feel humans’ lives and animals’ lives are special and worthy. I live my life as a vegan. (No eating animals or consuming any animal products and try to buy as many cruelty-free items as possible.) I can have a healthy/thriving life without contributing to factory farms and slaughter houses.
