If you’ve lived long enough on this earth, you’ve probably known at least one person who has been affected by cancer. For me, I have multiple relatives who have experience with cancer, and my grandfather, as well as one uncle, passed away from it.
Cancer is tough to deal with, for both the person whose body it lives in, and their loved ones. With cancer becoming so common, it’s a good idea to make lifestyle changes to decrease the risk of cancer. Here are 3 promising natural ingredients which can play a role in keeping human bodies cancer-free!

Dandelion Root Extract is scoring big in anti-cancer research. While many people swore by its positive effects since long before, now scientists are beginning to unveil its anti-cancer secrets for themselves. It’s wonderful to see the scientific community beginning to realize the true value of natural substances in healing diseases, slowly taking away the dogma of conventional medicine over more nature-based options.
So what did they find? They found that dandelion root extract contains these phytochemicals called Taraxasterol and Beta-sitosterol. These natural compounds have a strong impact in preventing and treating cancer. They also help prevent tumors, and the spreading of cancer.
Dandelion root extract is most helpful in preventing colon cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, uterine cancer, liver cancer, leukemia and lung cancer. It’s amazing that dandelion root extract is able to do that with no real side-effects. For example, a recent study shows that dandelion root extract can target melanoma cells without harming the innocent cells nearby.
2) Turmeric is another spice in nature that is getting more scientific attention. This spice belongs to the ginger family, and people in Asian countries have been using it for centuries in cooking, for beauty uses, and for its medicinal properties. Research is still going on, but the ones done so far show that there really is something special about turmeric.
To start with, turmeric is a strong antioxidant, which means it helps the body get rid of toxic substances. Next, chronic inflammation can actually lead to cancer, and turmeric is fortunately, anti-inflammatory. Also, the main ingredient in turmeric touted as its superhero is curcumin.
In a study done in Taiwan on the effects of curcumin on lung cancer, scientists noticed that curcumin not only helps prevent cancer cells from spreading, but also triggers the proteins in our body responsible to stop or prevent tumors from forming. This detail really emphasizes how useful it is to include turmeric in our daily lives.
Other studies also show similar results. For example, one study shows that certain cancers happen less often in countries where people “eat curcumin at levels of about 100 to 200 mg a day over long periods of time” (CancerResearch UK). This ingredient is most effective against bowel cancer, stomach cancer, breast cancer, and skin cancer cells.
3) Rosemary extract from the rosemary herb also has some anti-cancer properties, and can add taste to a wide range of food. Rosemary is high in antioxidants, which helps detoxify the body of harmful substances.
According to researchers, herbs are a better source of antioxidants than even many types of food. Even adding a gram of herbs to our daily cooking helps us benefit from their antioxidant properties.
Rosemary extract can slow down cancer caused chemically. It has carsonic acid and rosmarinic acid, which can stop certain cancer cells from increasing. The list of cells includes those that cause lung cancer, liver cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer and leukemia.
In a certain study that took a look at how rosemary extract effects colon cancer, scientists noticed that they increased the number of cells dying, and made the colon cancer cells less sustainable. Another study noticed that the combination of curcumin with rosemary, as well as using rosemary on its own, lessened the chance of breast cancer.
Rosemary is not a good combination, however, with chemotherapy drugs because it reduces their effectiveness. As for use outside of cooking, breastfeeding women and pregnant women don’t want to eat this as it can be unsafe for them.
So there we have it. Three natural choices to include in our diets and benefit from their anti-cancer effects, alongside others!
