Stress and anxiety are feelings experienced by every single one of us at least once in our lives. Anxiety disorders, which are much more severe than mild anxiety, are among the most frequent mental health problems in the United States.
According to statistics, Anxiety Disorders affect 18.1 percent of adults in the United States (approximately 40 million adults between the ages of 18 to 54). – Current estimates put this number much higher – approximately 30 percent – as many people don’t seek help, are misdiagnosed, or don’t know they have issues with anxiety. So how can you tell if you have it? It’s actually harder than you think. We get so lost in our stress that we don’t realize how much it’s affecting us. Sometimes when we’re stressed we get forgetful about the little (but still important) things. Sometimes we get snappy with those around us, or end up ignoring those closest to us all together. Regardless of how you act out, it’s not your fault when it happens because like everything in life, it’s all part of the lesson. That doesn’t mean you can’t get a little help occasionally!
Obviously there are many ways to combat stress. Sure, you can always quit your job, sell everything you own and move to a beach somewhere! Not today? Well, before you go the unhealthy route and start talking to your doctor (who is pretty much guaranteed to just offer you pills) maybe you should try something else.
Now, I know what some of you are going to say. “IM STRESSED! How is carrying a rock around supposed to help me!?” Well, for starters you’re not supposed to hit people with it. That’s a no. You carry it around with you! And yes, it really does help! Shall I explain how? Well, no. That would take way too long and let’s be real here, you’re stressed and you don’t want to read a lot of extra stuff right now, especially if you already know how crystals work. So, lets get right down to it.
(For those that DO want to know how they work, Patchman explains it here: Spirit Science Episode #13 – The Crystal Movie)
And just so you know, there are actually a lot more than 5 crystals that help with stress and anxiety. There are also crystals that help for very specific types of anxiety, and even the symptoms of anxiety such as panic attacks. That’s why it’s best to do your research and see what works for you if this is a common problem.
With this particular article, I’m going to make this more about the 5 most common crystals for stress and anxiety. These are crystals you’re likely to already have laying around the house anyway, so you won’t have to go running to the local crystal shop in the early house for some rare crystal just before you have that stressful day at work.
Amethyst- I had to start with this beautiful purple crystal from the quartz family. Maybe because I’m a little bias since it’s my favorite crystal in the whole world, but how can you not love it! Just looking at it makes me happier. Amethyst is always a good crystal to carry around with you because it is a powerful, protective and healing stone. It guards against psychic attack, transmuting the energy into love and protecting the wearer from all types of harm, including geopathic or electromagnetic stress and ill wishes from others.
Amethyst is also considered a natural tranquilizer. It relieves stress and strain, soothes irritability, balances mood swings, dispels anger, rage, fear and anxiety. Alleviates sadness and grief, and dissolves negativity. It’s pretty much the perfect stone for Empaths since it helps to repel bad energy and attract good energy. They also consider it ‘the sober stone’ so it may be a little hard to get tipsy on alcohol while you have it on you.
Best way to use it: Sleep with it! Put it under your bed, under your pillow, on your bedside table, wherever. As long as it’s in your energy field, it will work to relieve stress. It even combats nightmares! During the day you can wear it as jewelry or take a small tumble stone to work with you and it will continue to work it’s wonders all day, so long as you manage to keep it cleansed and charged.
Blue Lace Agate – Another very popular stone! It is a variety of banded Chalcedony, another mineral of the Quartz family. (Interesting fact: Quartz contains natural Lithium, which is calming and soothing) Blue Lace Agate is a stone of communication, helping those who have difficulty being heard by others, or whoconfidence and articulation to share their truths.
It provides clarity of thought and unwavering intent in regards to what matters most. It is not a stone of protection, but rather of encouragement and support. Its circular flowing energy calms, uplifts and elevates.
Since it is also a throat chakra stone, blue lace agate allows you to speak your mind calmly & clearly to get you out of those fear-inducing conflicts or situations. It is a support crystal for all caregivers, calming stress-related situations and overcoming communication difficulties.
Best way to use it: This is a really great stone to wear as everyday in a ring or an amulet, but just having a piece in your pocket ever once in a while can really help to uplift your energy. It’s also great for those who struggle to express their emotions without getting upset.
Black Tourmaline- Don’t let the color of this stone throw you off. Black tourmaline is known for its ability to transmute & “cleanse” energy.
So if you’re perceiving energy (the situation) to be negative, this stone is great for bringing it right back to neutral. Black Tourmaline is an excellent grounding crystal for meditation and healing, and a small number of Black Tourmalines are double-terminated, ideal for body layouts.
The linear flow of energies is enhanced equally in both directions along the crystalline form. Black Tourmaline also soothes panic attacks, especially those caused by dark or confined spaces, or in places where the atmosphere is frightening. It also helps control fears of doctors or dentists.
Best way to use it: Wear this crystal for protection against moaners, whiners, complaining coworkers, neighbors or emotional vampires who often try to burden you with their problems.
Rose Quartz- Rose Quartz is, in my opinion, the most important crystal for those experiencing any kind of anxiety due to emotional suffering. It is the strongest Heart Chakra Crystal of the mineral kingdom and a great heart healer. It is most often used for transmuting negative energy and replacing it with love energy.
Rose Quartz can facilitate the release of pent up emotions such as grief, anger, resentment, and other negative emotions that can cause dis-ease within oneself. Meditating with Rose Quartz can help dispel stress by encouraging love, compassion, and forgiveness.
How to use it: During crystal and gemstone healing therapy, place a piece of rose quartz on the heart chakra, fold your hands over it, and visualize your body being covered with a pink glow. This balances and energizes the heart chakra, sometimes dispelling anxiety in a matter of a few minutes.
Rose quartz can also be used in conjunction with other crystals. Green aventurine and kunzite also have impressive stress relieving properties and partner well with rose quartz. In this particular trio, the rose quartz brings in the energy of unconditional love. Green aventurine allows the unconditional love to increase confidence. Kunzite then transforms that confidence into serenity, resulting in a sense of deep inner peace.
Lapis Lazuli- Lapis Lazuli is one of the oldest spiritual stones known to man. It has been used by priests, royalty, and healers to bring peace, wisdom, power and psychic abilities.
Lapis is said to block psychic attacks, and even help you on your spiritual journey. It is one of the most sought after stones for healing and is perfect for clearing away emotional baggage.
It is also considered the stone of wisdom and truth. Use this crystal to enhance your memory and help relieve anxiety, especially when you’re overloaded by stress at work.
How to use it: Wearing this stone will ward off negativity, help with creativity, promote effective communication, boost intellectual thought and bring harmony to your relationships. If you have trouble expressing yourself, this is the stone for you.
