What is Meditation?

First (of six) in a series of videos on how to practice meditation without the requirement of religious dogma or spiritual mumbo-jumbo. This video discusses both the meaning of meditation and the foundations of meditation practice.

This is a new series by Yuttadhammo Bhikkhu, a buddhist Monk who is now sharing some amazing information on Youtube :)

We thought it was worth a share! ^^

  3. Great segment.
I went to a private military themed academy for my high school where I learned a lot of discipline. The walking meditation is not unlike a slow march.
That is done by extending each foot forward 1 step in slow mo while keeping your foot level with the ground as it moves.
Your foot should glide without any jerky movement.
When I learned this it was an exercise in concentration, balance and general movement which focuses your attention inward.

I’m happy to find I have experienced a part of this and didn’t even know it!

Now that I think more…every time I got in trouble I had to stand at attention for hours or was put into physical labor which could last days or at least until you puked (for more minor offences).
Although I didn’t view it as such this was meditation too and you had hours and hours to go over what had happened. Eventually most would break down and reconcile with themselves.

I’m going to draw on that experience to help with my practice.

I’m glad these videos are here. They have helped me make a connection I wasn’t thinking about…(over 20 years ago)

    Thanks
