It turns out, Einstein may be even more accurate than he realized at the time that he made the above statement.
If you are one of those people who just can’t get your desk in order, leave your belongings laying around or if you just can’t be bothered to wash the dishes every day, chances are you are more intelligent and more creative than your tidy and orderly counterparts!
The University of Minnesota has conducted a study showing that being messy doesn’t make you any less productive than the super tidy people among us.
In fact, it has shown that being messy actually helps stimulate new ideas and creative thoughts.
What psychological scientist Kathleen Vohs and her team of researchers discovered in their research was that while both tidy and messy people generate the same amount of ideas, those who have a more cluttered environment seem to have more interesting and creative ones. So, if you have papers piling up on your desk or a heap of clothes on your floor, chances are you’re actually pretty good at thinking outside the box!
Something else interesting though? The neat people among those who were tested proved to make wiser decisions, (like choosing an apple as a snack over a chocolate bar) and they were also more generous when donating to charity.
