3 People Over 90 That Are In Better Shape Than You

Picture yourself at 90 years old. Where do you think you will be when that time comes? What shape do you think your body will be in? As some people say, ‘Age is only a number’. We’ve all heard that expression before.

Sometimes it can be very surprising to learn a person’s age because they don’t look or act the age you thought they were. Sometimes if someone is unwell or has long term addictions, they can seem older than they actually are. On occasions you may even meet people who are considerably older than you, yet can still look the same age as you or even younger. What do you think their secret is?

Well, it wasn’t hard to find a few amazing people who are in their 90’s (or even older) that are still in excellent health. Not only that, they’re probably in better health than most of the people reading this. Lets start with Tao Porchon-Lynch as the perfect example.

Tao Porchon-Lynch is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s Oldest Yoga Teacher.  At 97 years old (she will be 98 on August 13th) Tao is probably one of the most impressive older ladies you will ever meet.

Most of her life she was an actress and a model. She is also a celebrated ballroom dancer and has been a yoga teacher for the past 56 years. Although she has had 3 hip replacement surgeries and a metal rod inserted in her leg, she still manages to kick butt at yoga on a daily basis, and is able to keep up with students several decades younger than her. When asked about her secrets to longevity, she had three things to say: Continue reading

Timeless Wisdom Found in Native American Proverbs

“Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.” –  Native American Proverb

For hundreds, if not thousands of years, the indigenous tribes of North America were a vibrant, diverse and thriving civilization. Their wisdom was not passed down by scrolls or tablets, but by stone carvings and stories told by the fire. Sadly, most of this wisdom is either lost or considered highly sacred. Thankfully some quotes and proverbs still remain even today. Some of them may date back hundreds of years, but the wisdom they hold is timeless!

“One finger cannot lift a pebble.” – Hopi Proverb

“There is no death, only a change of worlds.” – Duwamish Proverb

“It is less of a problem to be poor, than to be dishonest”. – Anishinabe Proverb

“You can’t wake a person who is pretending to be asleep.”- Navajo Proverb

“When a man moves away from nature his heart becomes hard.” – Lakota Proverb

Studies Show How Messy People Are More Creative & Intelligent

“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”

– Albert Einstein

shutterstock_419175913It turns out, Einstein may be even more accurate than he realized at the time that he made the above statement.

If you are one of those people who just can’t get your desk in order,  leave your belongings laying around or if you just can’t be bothered to wash the dishes every day, chances are you are more intelligent and more creative than your tidy and orderly counterparts!

The University of Minnesota has conducted a study showing that being messy doesn’t make you any less productive than the super tidy people among us.

In fact, it has shown that being messy actually helps stimulate new ideas and creative thoughts.

shutterstock_178353305What psychological scientist Kathleen Vohs and her team of researchers discovered in their research was that while both tidy and messy people generate the same amount of ideas, those who have a more cluttered environment seem to have more interesting and creative ones. So, if you have papers piling up on your desk or a heap of clothes on your floor, chances are you’re actually pretty good at thinking outside the box! The Surreal Bioluminescent Beaches of the Maldives Islands

By: Ben Chaney

By: Ben Chaney

It’s almost like a dream. You’re walking along a quiet, peaceful sandy beach on a tropical island, and you can see millions of stars scattered across the water. As it hits the shore the water seems to glow in the moonlight. You touch your toes to it and to your surprise, the water really is glowing! It’s not glowing from the moonlight, nor is it a trick of the mind. The glow is actually alive!

Tiny, bioluminescent sea creatures can be found all over the world, but one of the best places to view them is in the Maldives. The islands of Maldives is considered one of the most dispersed countries in the world. It comprises some 1190 coral islands, grouped in a double chain of 26 atolls covering an area of over 90,000 square kilometres. Continue reading

How To Travel Around The World While Completely Broke

Do you travel?

Traveling is not something everyone does. Sure, we may travel from town to town, city to city or even from state to state, but international travel is still not very common for most people. According to statistics, only about 20% of Americans will ever own a passport.

travel-alone-1The most common reason most people don’t travel much is lack of money, with work and family problems getting the rest of the blame. We can’t help you if your boss won’t give you time off, or if family stuff keeps you stuck.

BUT! If money is to blame, you should know that you are not completely out of luck. There are several ways you can travel, even if you’re flat broke! Here are my two favorites.

Now, you should know that this first tip can also work if you’re in a major jam. Let’s say you get stuck somewhere and have nowhere to crash. You might have an option you never thought of before. It’s called COUCHSURFING.

And no, you don’t have to pay a thing. In most cases people just sign up with them via social media, like with your Facebook account. Then you just fill out your personal profile so people can get to know you better. And yes, of course there is a catch.  Continue reading

This New Vegan Leather is Made Out of Pineapple Leafs

Leather has been used for many thousands of years to make just about every kind of cloth and upholstery you can imagine. It has long been preferred for certain tasks; not just out of its easy accessibility but also for it’s durability. Nowadays, people tend to prefer to have the availability of many different options.

The first reported use of artificial leather was by the Chinese around the 1400’s and is believed to have been discovered by tampering with silk. The most common artificial leather in the world today is most certainly PU leather aka Polyurethane or ‘Pleather’.Screen Shot 2016-06-06 at 11.28.10 AM

While Polyurethane is more animal friendly, washable, cheaper and doesn’t require as much care as normal leather, it tends to crack after being exposed to prolonged sunlight.

It’s also not breathable, it’s not environmentally friendly and it’s not biodegradable. It actually takes over 500 years for poly-leathers to decompose, like most other oil-based plastics do. Continue reading
