Everything you need to know about the Rastafari Movement

[shareaholic app=”share_buttons” id=”5111567″]
The Faith of Rastafari is more than just a religion, but a way of life, a social movement, as well as a mindset, without the structure that most religions are used to. The movement began in Jamaica in the 1930’s amongst working-class black people following a prophecy made by Marcus Garvey, a black political leader, about the unification of black people with Africa, their land of origin. It began in part as a social stand against the oppression from white people and other middle-class people. At the heart of it, they believed that by being taken to the Caribbean by slave traders they had been robbed of their African heritage, which they sought to recapture, and celebrate.

The prophecy was rapidly followed by the crowning of Emperor Haile Selassie in Ethiopia. The Rastafarians saw this as a fulfilment of Garvey’s prophecy, and Haile Selassie was regarded as the Messiah, Jah Rastafari, a figure of salvation who would redeem black people from white suppressors, and reunite them with their homeland. It was Leonard Howell, often called the “First Rasta”, who set up the first Rastafarian commune of 5000 people at Pinnacle, St Catherine, Jamaica.

Rastas express their identity through the livity, a concept of righteous, ever-living living. It’s essence is the realization that an energy or life force, conferred by the Almighty Jah, God, exists within, and flows through, all people and all things. This way of being emphasises a life of naturalness. From the very beginning, Rastafarianism was based around communal living. Hair is most commonly worn as dreadlocks, diet is vegetarian, and herbal medicine is favored; in particular, Cannabis, known as Ganja, was believed to be sanctioned by the Bible, clean the body and mind, and bring the soul closer to God. Rastas have an important concept which is “I and I”, which is said instead of “You and I”. It emphasizes the oneness between humanity and God, and the equality of all humans.

Rastafari is based on the Abrahamic faiths, and the Bible, complemented by other texts, were interpreted in the light of the racial struggle: so just as the ancient empire of Babylon had oppressing the Jews, so modern white people were “Babylon” oppressing the black chosen people, and Ethiopia was Zion. Rastas seek to resist, and even chant down babylon, which are represented by the white power structures of Europe and the Americas. A version of the bible called the Holy Piby was also created, which removed deliberate distortions from the Bible which were believed to be made by white leaders during its translation into English.

In 1974 Haile Selassie was deposed from office by a Marxist revolution, and died mysteriously the next year. To many Rastas, belief spread that he would come again, and to others, his figure has become less central to the Faith. The idea of the return to Africa is today, often understood symbolically in terms of self-expression within white-major societies. Personal liberation, rather than black supremacy is stressed, and now there are white rastafarians also.

Through Rastafari, Reggae music experienced its root development. The work of Bob Marley, one of the most important figures of Rastafari, took the magic of the culture to a worldwide audience, for his lyrics encapsulated the spirit of the movement thoroughly. Today, there are more than a million Rastafarians around the world, many live in communes, which often double as the external reflection of their holy temples, the temple itself being the body.

Kratom: The Plant That Nobody is Talking About, But Should Be

There is a conspiracy going on, I can feel it! Kratom, a plant which has remarkable attributes of its ability to treat opiate addiction, is being withheld and subjugated by the FBI.

It’s not actually “illegal”, mind you, it’s simply becoming impossible to obtain, and its likely the legal status of this incredibly useful plant will soon change.

The Amazing Properties of Magical Mushrooms

Magic Mushrooms are becoming a very popular topic of discussion both in the mainstream world and in scientific circles as of late, as it has been proven to have more than a few remarkable healing benefits to an individual, including assisting in the quitting of smoking, battling depression, and so much more.

Here’s a video that summarizes it for you!

The craziest point of all, to me, is that Magic Mushrooms is probably where Santa Claus came from. Yes: Santa Claus. If you didn’t watch the video above, (and it explains it pretty well), here’s the story:

Anthropologist John Rush believes Magic Mushrooms gave us Father Christmas. Siberian Shamans would hand out the psychedelic Amanita Muscaria mushroom every December. Often, the snow was so heavy they couldn’t use the door, and would climb down the chimney. The color of the mushroom matches the colors worn by Santa Claus, and the Spirit Animal of these Shamans are Reindeer.

Announcing Our New Video Series about the Worlds Faith!

“Why do people believe what they believe?” This has been a question that I have pondered for many years, and the worlds religions are the most ingrained form of belief, spanning back thousands of years and through countless threads and channels of religious beliefs.

Even as scientists, we strive to understand the basis behind these beliefs, in order to come to a more complete, and more unified understanding of the world.

Today, I’m excited to announce our new series “Minute Faith”, which takes a look at the worlds religions from a completely open minded view asking the question “What do they believe?”.

So far, there are 3 episodes out which you can see right here!

This video series will be replacing Daily Divination every Tuesday and Thursday mornings on both Facebook and Youtube. If you want to be notified I reccomend subscribing to the new youtube channel – Spirit Studios.

Stay tuned, a lot more on the way!

Understanding the Decay of the Old World, and 3 Steps to Transcend It!

You never stop doing anything, you only start doing something new. The old falls away on its own.

This was something shared with me many years ago, and stuck with me since as I rounded the solar system learning and growing, year after year, as we all have been…

You’ll notice, when a tree dies, there isn’t really any effort on anyones part in order for it to decay and merge with everything. That process of death, decay, and… consumption by the plants basic materials, is simply a natural part of the  universe itself.

Decay, much like time, continues regardless of all things, whether you like it or not. If there is not life moving through it, there is decay. It’s a perfect Yin and Yang.

parallel universes

Now, if we can take that concept and apply it to other concepts, such as aspects of our lives, we can see some interesting correlations that can, when brought into awareness, can release a lot of anxiety as it relates to the things in our lives that we’re still “trying to get away from”.

For example, take a job. As it often goes with a great deal of jobs that man has created for itself, they aren’t the most fun. Granted, many are, but I would reckon a great deal MORE jobs are boring, stupid, and purposeless, otherwise more people would be employed and more people would be happy with their lives.

Yes, I rambled But the point here is, say you’re working a bad job that you don’t like. The thought of “getting away from” the job brings anxiety. What will you do next? How will you afford to eat? How can you possibly do something different when this is all you know?

Those are some big questions that a lot of people face…

And here’s the flip. If you were to focus on the new thing, rather than how to ‘get away from the old thing’, you would naturally begin to move in that direction, and the old “job” would fall away naturally.

If you started looking for opportunities to do something more enjoyable to you, the moment one came up would be a bridge from here to there. Transitioning from one to the other would now become POSSIBLE, and not only possible, but potentially quite easy.

Not only that, but your very determination to do it would spike because of your enthusiasm to make it so, you wouldn’t be so concerned with the trap of a job that you had, but the direction your ultimately heading!

lifeanddeath

In summation of the article you just read, here are 3 key points to creating something new, and releasing something old.

  1. Slow everything down

I know its a big concept to plug here but MIND is a fundamental building block of the cosmos, and the Human Mind is a particularly creative wonder in the Cosmos as so far as we know, there isn’t another species on earth just like us

Having said that, through our creations we have also created a LOT of distractions for ourselves. All over the internet: advertisements, facebook, chatting, messaging, snapchatting oh em jee it’s crazy! Life was a lot simpler when we all lived on farms, but now that life is different, we must adapt.

time-slowing

We have to learn a practice of slowing things down which means taking time to breathe… just be calm… even though there are some psychological torments that are haunting you we must learn to be comfortable in the den of our demons because we are expansive beyond measure and ultimately our own minds are mirrors of the great Mind of God… Or, whatever you want to call it ;)

In the stillness of the mind we can tap into that cosmic thought in which our entire reality is a hologram of, and through it… come to understand Life a little bit more, everyday.

2.  Look for Opportunities for Change Actively

archanpaintingeyesOnce we have tapped into our cosmic knowing we need to remember that we are still humans and we still inhabit physical bodies. This body is foreign to our soul, though we get used to it, we must use that knowledge to keep us ready and on our toes for the opportunities to bring our lives closer to Phi.

Ultimately, this is just about staying aware, and staying present throughout the day. Do not let the awareness of your higher self slip away from you… Stay mindful, because when you see the opportunity, you take action with Key number 3.

3.  Take Action when the Moment Strikes!

law of attractionOpportunities will come and go on a regular basis, and when those moments strike often they will require action or the moment will begin to decay, aka: Change into a new moment, much like time and death as we discussed at the beginning of the article.

When that happens… This is the moment for YOU, yes YOU, to take action upon the moment. Make a commitment to yourself to see this through, and not just jump into the vibration but complete it so that it is whole and unique, imbued with your gifts and given to all those around you.

When you practice these 3, over and over, you become a powerful creator

Isn’t that at least part of what we’re here to do?

Thanks for reading!

With love,
Jordan
