If you are baking or grilling your food and tend to wrap it in Aluminum Foil then you are going to want to check this out!
Aluminum may seem like a nice way to hold your food together and keep the juices in while cooking but did you know that aluminium can actually leach into your meal?
This means that you are eating your dinner with essence of Aluminum which can make you toxic quick.
So I know what you’re thinking… So what if I can’t taste it? Well having more aluminium in your body is actually not very good for your health and I’ll tell you why…
While aluminium cookware has moved in to replace the traditional copper pots and pans it doesn’t have the same effective on your food that aluminium foil does.
When you take aluminium foil and bake you acidic or spicy food in the oven at high temperatures then you can create some health concerns for yourself.
Aluminium and Your Health
Our bodies are used to coming in contact with aluminium. In fact, it’s in corn, salt, spices, tea, and herbs so having it around isn’t the problem.
The World Health Organisation found that we are alright if we have around 40mg of aluminium per kilogram we weigh each day. So if you weigh around 130 pounds then you can have up to 2400 mg per day and your body will be able to excrete it without too much trouble.
A big topic around the web and the health community is whether or not aluminium is something we should avoid all together, especially when they found that patients with Alzheimer’s disease have high concentrations of it in their brain.
Now, the scientists involved with that case decided that the issue with many of our senior citizens was coming from a lifestyle of living in an industrialized society, but it may have been pushed over the edge by getting more than their daily recommended amount.
Other studies have found that having high amounts of aluminium in your system can make existing conditions such as kidney problems and bone issues worse. It also can reduce your ability to grow brain cells at a normal rate, and no one wants a lack of brain cells.
Why we Should Avoid Tinfoil when Cooking
When you look at all the risks, it does make sense to try and reduce our intake of aluminium to avoid some of these major health issues. That is why our pots and pans typically come coated with a layer over the aluminium so that it won’t leak into your food.
That is why once the layer of oxidation is worn down or off of your cookware, it can again become the same issue as using aluminium foil. These important layers can be scrubbed off when you are cleaning the cookware leaving it exposed.
Instead, when you get a new pot try boiling water several times until the base becomes matte. This is a natural way to create an oxidized layer which will prevent the leaking of aluminium.
When it comes to tin foil your food is coming into direct contact with the food and it is heating up which leaches the issue straight into your food. Unfortunately, the amount that leaches into the food is above what the World Health Organization has recommended.
In the video below Ghada Bassioni explains the research they have done on this topic.
